Transition

Hi All,
You're stuck with me (Brian) again.

Susan's last update was from Southport, there's a little bit more news from our stay there. If we needed a reminder of why we're doing this, we got it. The second day we were in Southport a boat came in and tied up in front of us. Their boat, Renown, had been in a boat yard in Beaufort NC for two years having work done getting it ready for the couple to go cruising. They left Beaufort and made it to Southport their first day. Their second day the husband had a massive heart attack and died walking down the dock. What a sobering experience. We never met the couple but we did talk with their captain that was helping them get started.

Once the weather (TS Colin) cleared we left Southport with Renown and another couple we met there on Kinship. We motored a little way up the ICW to Wrightsville Beach to stage for the next day. We didn't get off the boat in Wrightsville Beach but it looked like a nice place. The next morning we and Renown were moving at 5:30 heading out to the Atlantic. It was a 63 mile run to Cape Lookout but it was a beautiful day. Our last night at anchor in Wrightsville Beach was fantastic, with one of the many beautiful sunsets we've experienced. The sailing to Cape Lookout was great as well. We are leaving our boat for a few months with very mixed emotions. The good news is we will be back on her this fall.

Now we're in Beaufort NC at a boat yard where we are going to store the boat for 5 months. This is truly a transitional week. A few days ago we bought a travel trailer over the phone. We have seen one just like it before so it's not sight unseen, but still a bit scary. Yesterday we bought a truck to pull said trailer. Tomorrow the boat is to be hauled out and put on blocks for the summer.  Today we have been working frantically to get the boat ready for storage. Almost everything has to come off and out of it to keep mildew from getting it.  The sails are all down, the mattress from the aft stateroom is out along with a whole bunch of stuff, We hope to be done, off the boat and moving north by Tuesday. Wednesday we're supposed to pick up the trailer. No moss growing anywhere around us.

That's it for now. Our next update will likely be more about life in a travel trailer than on a boat. But we'll get back to that. I promise!

Take care.
Brian

  1. Hey, y'all! It's Brian and Cassie from Hope Town. We just got to the boatyard yesterday and came across your boat. It's a small, small world! We, too, will be keeping the boat around here so we'll see you later in the year. Will you be heading back to The Bahamas? We plan to be working out way back down the coast in late September, early October.

    1. Hi Brian,
We plan to head back to the Bahamas this fall / winter, no firm plans as far as dates yet. What are y'all going to do this summer?
